“Fun” with 2FA
My phone suddenly broke, which means I lost access to Google Authenticator.
“No problem”, I thought; “I’ll just contact support to reset 2FA”.
It turns out that they…required a photo of me. And they needed to compare it to a photo I’d already posted on this blog.
Obviously, since I’ve never posted a photo of myself here, support just said “Whoops, guess you’re not getting access to your account”.
At this point, I was furious - who the hell relies on photographs to verify identity?
…Turns out I was still logged in via desktop and could disable 2FA directly. *facepalm*
Tumblr’s 2FA recovery is still crap though.
